Get to know your doula

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this story; my story. I hope getting to know me will assist you in your search for a birth doula.

Let’s  be honest - before I started birth work, I didn’t know where a uterus was or that a placenta even existed. Am I allowed to say that? What I did know was that I love connecting with people and caring for the hearts of those around me. I love connecting people with their purpose, growing in confidence and understanding of their ability to do and be something great in this world. When I learned about the doula role is just that: I found a tangible expression of serving, loving, and supporting women. I truly believe when women give birth, there is a taste of fierce strength, love, and courage. Birthing reveals what’s always been true of oneself. There are one-of-a-kind opportunities woven in birth for families to be empowered and deeply bonded.

I am a certified birth doula through DONA International, a Registered Nurse, and birth photographer. Most of all, I am a friend, mother, wife, and daughter.

My Birth Experiences

I completed doula training through DONA International and served my first beloved client before birthing my first daughter. My own birth experience was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced - some may even say it was euphoria. After waiting the full 42 weeks, my labor started (with some natural induction methods) and I was able to birth surrounded by my husband, midwives, sister, both mothers, and my close friend (yes, a lot of folks!). I was surrounded by my favorite, most supportive people in a birth center. I was safe, secure, and surrounded. Meeting my daughter and birthing left me feeling victorious, confident, and bonded with myself, my husband, child, and those who supported me through it all.

My second birth was a planned homebirth. She came fast and furious. Didn’t even get to use the tub or have time for any of my support people to arrive! Midwives, husband, and daughter (4) were there to witness. The moment I hold close is my daughter holding my hands, supporting me with eye contact, as my contractions intensified after my water breaking.

Who am I, really?

I'm a follower of Jesus and love to love on people.

Rising with the sun to drink cardamom flavored coffee & read are my favorite.

I work best when lights are out and candles are lit.

Summited Mailbox Peak at 32 weeks pregnant (if you know, you know)

My husband and I are high school sweethearts from Ohio.

I don't quite know what I'm doing but figuring it out as I go!
